Kate Winslet is now saying there’s a “strong likelihood” that there will be a second season of the Delco-centered murder mystery Mare of Easttown, writes Baz Barnigboye for Deadline.
The seven-part HBO series by Brad Ingelsby about Mare Sheehan, a small-town detective in Delaware County investigating missing and murdered young women, captivated national audiences in 2021.
Rumors and conversations have swirled around ever since about a second season.
Ingelsby and Winslet have stated previously that a second season would only be possible if the right story could be told.
Winslet, as Sheehan, has spoken enthusiastically about the role she played, but initially said the series was “done and dusted” as a one-off single-season drama.
She would only return to Delco as Mare if “the story was too bloody good to resist, because it took a lot out of all of us filming Mare,” she said.
But talk turned again to a Mare sequel several months ago while Winslet was in London editing Goodbye June, directed by Winslet and streaming on Netflix.
“They were proper conversations around a timeframe when it could be possible. And so I think we probably will do it, and that’s the first time I’ve felt that,” Winslet said.
