Eight businesses have contributed $312,000 to support the Family Village Housing Opportunities Program for Equity (HOPE), w hich provides housing and other support for families.

The Foundation for Delaware County announces that eight businesses have committed a total of $312,000 to support Family Village’s Housing Opportunities Program for Equity (HOPE) through the Neighborhood Assistance Act Tax Credit Program (NAP).

Family Village, a program of the Foundation, is a comprehensive hub dedicated to ensuring all children in Delaware County have a strong start in life. The hub integrates a constellation of supportive programs that address health, well-being, and the social determinants of health for pregnant women, new parents, infants, and families.

A safe, stable, and quality home is the foundation for healthy pregnancies, thriving children, and stronger communities. HOPE is one of the many wrap-around programs offered by Family Village that helps families facing unsafe living conditions, the threat of eviction, or the rising costs of rent and utilities achieve stable housing.

In addition to leading the Rental Housing Coalition, HOPE supports families through:

  • Education on financial issues, such as how to review leases and create a budget.
  • Guidance on negotiating and advocating with landlords.
  • Financial assistance, which may include support for security deposits, rent, or utility bills.
  • Referrals to free legal aid to prevent eviction.
  • Support in elevating resident voices to advocate for equitable housing policies across Delaware County.

“I went to community college, and I dropped out due to living conditions and family issues. Living in an apartment I couldn’t afford, I had to work three jobs just to afford my rent. So I couldn’t go to school then. Due to having assistance with my rent, I could go back to school. I’m in school for nursing now. I was able to lower my hours a little bit to pick up more time for classes. HOPE client

TD Bank was the lead contributor of the twelve organizations, providing $150,000 in funds:

Here at TD, we firmly believe that everyone should have access to safe and affordable housing, and the Housing Opportunity Program for Equity (HOPE) is a shining example of an intentional, solutions-based approach,” read a TD Bank statement.

“HOPE provides critical services to residents who are disproportionately impacted by the health and opportunity disparities associated with substandard housing, leading to a clean, safe, and affordable place to live and thrive. We are proud to continue our longstanding support of The Foundation for Delaware County by providing funding to HOPE through the Commonwealth’s Neighborhood Assistance Program.”

More About Family Village

Family Village has served families in Delaware County for more than 40 years and now supports more than 8,500 people each year through programs designed to ensure all children have a strong start in life.

These maternal and child health programs have long supported families across the community—first through the Crozer-Keystone Health System and, since 2016, through the Foundation. Now unified under the Family Village name, the programs operate under a cohesive identity that strengthens and expands their ability to serve families.

Family Village provides education on pregnancy and parenting and empowers participants to advocate for their needs. Services include support in accessing medical care, childcare, transportation, mental health, and more.  The staff can also provide services for the Spanish-speaking community, with many people on staff who are bilingual.

Family Village programs and services take place in different settings, including in clients’ homes and in WIC clinics in Eddystone, Springfield, and Upper Darby. Programs support moms, dads, partners, and grandparents – everyone who plays a role in a child’s well-being. At Family Village, families will find caring, experienced people dedicated to providing the support they need to thrive.
