The former Eagles tight end and Super Bowl champion Brent Celek, who lives in West Chester, is using his platform to raise awareness over men’s health issues, writes Ariel Simpson for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“I think it’s important for men to talk more about their health,” said Celek. “I think it’s actually happening more. Like, I see it with athletes. I think historically, it’s just been something where men are supposed to be tough and you’re not supposed to talk about your problems and issues.”
Celek teamed up with TENA, the incontinence brand, for a video series filmed in Philadelphia, where he challenged men to test their athletic skills. Celek and TENA asked participants how confident they felt about catching a pass in a professional football game or making a three-pointer in pro basketball.
After playing some ball, they then used it as an opportunity to start conversations about men’s health.
Celek hopes that the confidence men showed in their athletic skills carries over into confidence when discussing their health.
“Seeing others [talking about their health] allows them to be more comfortable talking about it,” said Celek.
