See Which Area Grocer Had the Largest Boost in Sales for 2025

Amazon Grocery showed the largest gain in sales among Greater Philadelphia grocery retailers, with 17.5 percent sales gain, writes Todd Romero for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Amazon Grocery, which includes Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market, added $97.5 million in revenue in 2025, according to data from Food Trade News.

Four Amazon Fresh stores  have opened in the region since mid-2024. There are now 19 local locations.

Trader Joe’s also saw 2025 gains, increasing sales 13.2 percent to $319.8 million.

Aldi reported a 5.6 percent increase to $662 million.

The data covers food and drug sales from April 1, 2024, through March 31, 2025, in the Delaware Valley District that includes Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania; as well as locations in Delaware and New Jersey.

Though Amazon Grocery posted the largest sales increase in 2025, it still ranks 12th overall in the region for total sales.

ShopRite is first with almost $4.8 billion in sales and 17 percent of market share. Giant placed second with 12 percent of market share, while Wawa was third, with 11 percent market share. Acme was fourth, with 10 percent.
