The HBO crime drama Task has a strong incentive to return to Pennsylvania for a second season, even beyond a desire to tell a Delaware County-centered story, writes Rosa Cartagena for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The show has been awarded a $49.8 million tax credit from the Shapiro administration through the Film Production Tax Credit Program.

“This is the largest tax credit we’ve ever awarded to one show, and we’re proud to support another returning series by homegrown storyteller Brad Ingelsby through the Film Production Tax Credit Program,” said Pennsylvania Film Commissioner Gino Anthony Pesi in a statement.

The show’s return is expected to generate about 3,700 jobs in Pennsylvania. HBO estimates it will invest about $194.1 million in the Pennsylvania economy.

Task’s first season used 777 Pennsylvanians for local crew, cast members, and background players. The work brought $230 million to the region, according to the Greater Film Office.

Task creator Brad Ingelsby of Berwyn, who previously put Delaware County on the national stage with Mare of Easttown, has school credits at Villanova University and Archbishop Carroll High School in Radnor.

He enjoys bringing Delaware County and Philadelphia crime stories to his dramas as an “investment in authenticity.”
