Kids were able to enjoy a new, fully-inclusive playground at Community Park in Robbinsville, New Jersey, one of the latest projects worked on by General Recreation Inc. in Newtown Square.

The playground opened in mid-November with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, as children eagerly tried out new equipment for climbing, gliding, swinging, and sliding, writes Steve Lenox for TAPinto Hamilton/Robbinsville.

The playground had been in the planning stages since 2023. Construction started this past August.

The space will enable children of all abilities to play together, “fostering unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime,” according to officials.

Speakers at the ribbon cutting included Robbinsville Councilman Hal English, Recreation Manager Kevin Holt, Council President and Mayor Elect Mike Todd, and Council Vice President Deborah Blakely.

Also attending was Arthur Aston, executive director of Our View, a nonprofit focused on “educating, raising awareness, and changing the conversation on disability.”

The speakers emphasized that the playground is not only for children with various disabilities, physical or cognitive, but that it is a space that welcomes all ages and abilities.

That includes a playground that is more accessible to parents.

“Every child deserves joy,” said Todd, who sees the playground becoming a place where families can “celebrate smiles and memories that will be made for years to come.”

The playground will also give children a chance to learn, with educational boards included with the new equipment.

The playground is the 97th one built in New Jersey with the support of funding designated by the Administration of Governor Phil Murphy under Jake’s Law, legislation that celebrated the life of Jake Cummings-Nasto, who passed away due to complications of heart surgery at the age of two and a half.

General Recreation serves Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, and has helped hundreds of community leaders and organizations build playgrounds that are safe, aesthetically pleasing, and made to last.

General Recreation projects are supported by expert services, including site evaluation, playground design, installation, and community build services.
