A new wine tasting room, John Robert Cellars, featuring Delaware County-made wines and tapas, has opened in Media Borough, reports Jalyn Green for 6abc.
John Irving and Robert Goodwin have been friends for 50 years and were engineers before deciding to start a winery for their retirement.
Wine making was a hobby that became a passion, with Goodwin learning winemaking at Missouri State University and the University of California.
They opened their first wine tasting room back in 2019 in Essington, where Goodwin produces all their wine selections.
“All the wine that we serve here is made in Essington,” Irving said. “The grapes are sourced from all over the world.”
Over the summer, they opened the second location in Media Borough at 115 West State Street.
The intimate space has bar seating, where guests can watch a game while pairing wines with dishes like Bikini Shrimp, a good companion to their fruity Pinot Grigio.
They make a variety of wines, but in honor of their Delaware County location, they’ve created a sweet wine available for purchase called Delco.
The wines are available for sale at both the Essington and Media locations.
