Bevan’s Own Make Candy in Media Borough continued a 10-year Halloween tradition Friday night by providing nearby Rigby Harting & Hagan Funeral Home at 15 E. Fourth Street with chocolate coffins containing a white chocolate corpse to give out to Trick or Treaters, reports Bob Kelly for Fox 29.
Kelly checked out the long-time candy store at 143 E. Baltimore Ave.
Bevan’s Candy owner Randy Bevan is a third-generation candy maker in the family business, the grandson of the original founders. The store has been around since 1959.
“So we make all of our chocolates here on the premises,” he said. “I can make about 300 pounds of finished product a day.”
The store turns out handmade gourmet chocolates that include butter creams, assorted chocolates, nut clusters, chocolate-covered pretzels, mints, and nonpareils.
“We had a lot more buttercreams here, but Phil Martelli came in the side door here and just split, said he had a conference call at 9:30, filled up his pockets like I Love Lucy, and he’s out of here,” Kelly joked.
Surprisingly, Halloween is not the candy store’s biggest holiday.
