Philadelphia On Pace for Fewest Homicides in Nearly 60 Years

Philadelphia has seen 150 homicides up to this point in the year, and at this rate, is on pace for 220, which would be the lowest since 1966.

Philadelphia has been seeing a decline in crime and homicides this year, with numbers currently on pace for its fewest homicides since 1966, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.

While one homicide is still one too many, Philadelphia has seen 150 homicides this year to date.

This is 18 percent decline from this time period last year, placing it on track to land at 220 homicides for the year.

If that happens, it would be the fewest homicides Philadelphia has seen in nearly 60 years.

This downward trend comes after the city reached well over 500 homicides in 2021 and 2022, respectively, and 499 in 2020.
