Doug Martin, a General Mills marketer, has been appointed Wawa’s new chief marketing and brand officer, writes Emma Dooling for Philadelphia Business Journal.
Notice of Martin’s hire was announced in an internal letter sent to Wawa employees from CEO Chris Gheysens.
Martin will oversee Wawa’s brand, advertising, marketing, loyalty, and consumer insights. He will also work on store design.
He reports directly to Gheysens.
Martin has been with General Mills for two decades. The company manufactures household brands that include Betty Crocker, Cheerios, Pillsbury, and Progresso.
He also worked with Gap Inc. and The Walt Disney Studios.
Wawa has also reorganized its senior leadership in marketing, creating a new chief merchant position after Chief Customer Officer Alex Costabile left the company.
The chief merchant will be in charge of sales and gross profit for all Wawa products.
Gheysens said in the employee letter that the change in leadership structure will “align with best practices” and “better support our business and strategies.”
“I’m confident these are the right moves to position us for growth and to help our brand soar to the highest level,” Gheysens wrote.
