Fall is just around the corner, and according to Pennsylvania Fall Foliage Reports, it won’t be long before the leaves start to change, writes Kai Lincke for the Bucks County Courier Times.
Reports from the Bureau of Forestry indicate that some trees should begin to show color during the last week of September. Most trees will begin to change in the second week of October, reaching their peak by the end of the month.
According to Explore Fall, which tracks fall foliage forecasts, Bucks County should begin to see low color around Sept. 30.
Around Oct. 15, residents will begin to see moderate color, and high color should begin around Oct. 22. Peak fall colors will be visible around Oct. 26, and trees will pass their peak around Nov. 3.
Leaf pigments, the length of nights and weather all affect the color of the leaves, which is why no two fall seasons are alike.
Kayla Kehres, a forester with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry, noted that sugar maple, black gum and hickory are among the more colorful tree species.
The Heritage Conservancy lists red maple, birches, ash, sumac and sassafras among the most vibrant trees in Bucks County.
