Flight delays may be giving the Philadelphia International Airport a lower ranking by AirHelp than it deserves, writes Julia Binswanger for Billy Penn at WHYY.
An AirHelp survey placed Philadelphia as the third-worst airport in the U.S.
The ranking is based on service quality, on-time performance, claims processing, amenities, customer satisfaction, and food and shopping options.
In her article, Binswanger raises questions about the results.
“If you’ve been to Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson or New Orleans’ Louis Armstrong airports, you know that Philly isn’t that bad,” she wrote.
On-time performance drove much of the results, she argues, comprising 60 percent of the score.
Heather Redfern, PHL’s public affairs manager, did question how an airport’s score can be so influenced by something outside the airport’s control, with factors like weather, and having one of the busiest airspaces in the world.
Redfern added that the airport has been expanding its restaurant options, and new lounges have also opened.
“I think if people really just invest the time instead of just going off of a ranking, they’ll see what we’re doing here and that there’s a lot going on,” she said. ”They should try PHL, instead of just dismissing us without even looking into the airport.”
