Fairman’s Skate Shop Collection Up for Auction in Garnet Valley

This vintage Sport Fun "Black Knight" wooden skateboard with clay wheels is one of many items featured in the Fairman's Skate Shop Auction.

Briggs Auction, Inc. in Garnet Valley is running a Special Collection: Fairman’s Skate Shop Auction that will feature items highlighting skateboard history, including autographed skateboard decks, posters, unique collectibles, original memorabilia and more.

The collection is being curated by Dave Fairman, founder of Fairman’s Skate Shop.

The store opened in 1977 and became a cultural hub for the Pennsylvania skateboarding community, according to a press release from Briggs Auction.

Dave Fairman started his business in his garage and eventually opened a storefront in Prospect Park, expanding to a second location on North Church Street in West Chester in 1988.

He moved to his current location on West Gay Street in West Chester in 2000.

Over nearly five decades, Fairman’s was a beacon for creativity, offering skate camps, art shows, gallery space, and championing local talent.

The shop officially closed in April 2024, marking the end of a 47-year legacy.

“I picked up my first skateboard from Fairman’s decades ago, and it was my first glimpse at skate culture, and that unforgettable wall of signed decks and memorabilia. This special collection is a chance to preserve that history,” said Stephen Turner, president of Briggs Auction, Inc.

The auction will be available for online bidding at https://www.briggsauction.com/ as well as through Briggs’ mobile bidding app through Thursday, Sept. 4.
