AI is transforming the job search. Here’s how you can leverage it to your advantage as a job seeker. In Part 1, we shared what not to do with AI in your job search. Now it’s time to flip the script and focus on how AI can work for you instead of against you.

Now, let’s explore actionable ways to put AI to work for you. When used effectively, AI can serve as a valuable assistant in your job search, supporting tasks such as analyzing, refining, and preparing your career documents.

Unlike a ghostwriter, AI helps refine your approach while your authentic story and decisions remain at the forefront under your direction.

To guide you through these methods, this article was co-authored by career coach Lynne Williams and Andrey Maltsev, Founder & CEO of Flidais.ai. Together, we offer similar and unique perspectives on how job seekers can use AI to stand out in a crowded market.

  1. Treat AI as a coach, not a writer. Use it to give feedback, not to generate your resume from scratch.
  2. Do a keyword analysis. Spot repeated employer terms in job ads and add them to your resume, tailoring for each job.
  3. Check Applicant Tracking System (ATS) alignment. AI can identify gaps in phrasing, structure, and keywords that can help you refine your resume for the ATS.
  4. Practice interviews. Turn AI into a mock interviewer to anticipate questions and rehearse strong answers.
  5. Research salary and skills trends. AI can surface benchmarks so you enter negotiations informed.
  6. Draft networking messages. Let AI help you brainstorm, but always personalize in your own voice.
  7. Simplify and add context. Use AI to cut jargon, expand acronyms, and explain company backgrounds.

The Bottom Line

AI is a powerful tool, but you lead the process. Recruiters want to hear about your achievements and authentic story, so let them shine.
