Tower Health to Lay Off Staff at All Facilities, Including Pottstown, Phoenixville

Tower Health laid off around 50 employees across all of its locations, including Pottstown Hospital and Phoenixville Hospital.

Tower Health announced layoffs of around 50 employees, affecting all of the health system’s locations, including Pottstown Hospital in Montgomery County and Phoenixville Hospital in neighboring Chester County, writes Nicole Leonard for WHYY.

The layoffs primarily targeted management-level roles. The number of eliminated positions represents less than half a percent of Tower Health’s total workforce.

The cuts also include vacant positions that will not be backfilled.

Tower Health leaders noted that the health system’s financial position has improved following several years of significant losses, but the layoffs are part of its efforts to streamline organizational structures and enhance operations.

“These changes will not impact the high-quality care we deliver and are designed to build a more resilient organization well positioned for the future,” said Tower Health officials. “We understand the impact of these changes and do not take them lightly.”

Laid-off employees will receive support with job placement assistance as well as transition benefits.

Meanwhile, Tower Health leaders are continuing contract negotiations with unionized nurses at Pottstown Hospital. Their contract expired in November.

Pottstown Nurses United leaders have said they need more, not less, staff at the hospital, along with other requests.
