So What Will Pica’s Restaurant be Like If It Lands in Broomall?

Pica's and its iconic pizza is closing its Upper Darby location after 69 years and moving to a smaller as yet undisclosed location in Broomall.

There’s been a lot of chatter on social media and elsewhere about Pica’s announcement that it is leaving its Upper Darby location of 70 years to move elsewhere.

The good news is they will be staying at their Upper Darby spot through summer for dining room and takeout service. An exact closing date has not yet been released.

But what will happen then?

Last week, the Pica family acknowledged on social media that variances had been approved for a location in Broomall with plans for a smaller shop while it continues to operate its other restaurant in West Chester, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Marple Township Zoning Hearing Board approved a zoning variance June 18 for a restaurant at 1101 Sussex Blvd., a former gym in the Lawrence Park Industrial Center.

Speculation on Facebook about Pica’s new Broomall location varied, but several commenters indicated that Pica’s was opening in the Lawrence Park Industrial Park near Produce Junction for take-out only.

So far, representatives of Pica’s and the landlord, Giacomucci Properties, are not talking.

Pica’s is best known for its sauce-on-top pan pizzas and has been a go-to destination in Upper Darby and Delaware County for decades.
