Mental health crisis services that were provided by the now-closed Crozer Crisis Center will be offered by Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital after Delaware County Council unanimously approved a contract with them last week, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.
Council OK’d a $494,400 contract with Mercy Catholic Medical Center of Southeastern Pennsylvania to run mental health services at the hospital, located on Lansdowne Avenue in Darby.
“The bankruptcy of Prospect Medical Holdings and its resulting closure of the Crozer Crisis Center has endangered the health and safety of our community by leaving Delaware County without a dedicated on-site mental health crisis program,” Delaware County Council Chair Dr. Monica Taylor said. “In the face of this unacceptable gap in care, the county and our partners are stepping up to ensure that residents experiencing a mental health emergency have access to immediate support.”
The Crozer Crisis Center was staffed 24 hours a day by nurses, counselors, and psychiatrists who treated those with suicidal or homicidal thoughts, psychosis, depression, or anxiety.
Delaware County has also provided municipal managers with a flyer to help their residents find mental health services.
