Hatfield Township has opened its brand-new inclusive playground at John S Clemens Memorial Park.
This is the first playground in the township designed specifically with not just accessibility but inclusivity for children of all abilities in mind.
Andy Cush and Larry McCullough of General Recreation in Newtown Square worked closely with Hatfield Township Parks and Recreation to bring the vision of an all-inclusive playground to life.
Mike Lannutti provided design expertise.
The township wanted to ensure that the playground had low maintenance and accessible surfacing, ample shade, and seating for families.
The community has already been enjoying the playground and is continuing to create memories at this integral public space.
The playground features Smart Play Motion equipment designed for 2- to 5-year-olds, complete with a race car track and 16 activities integrated into the structure.
There is a PlayBooster structure for 5- to 12-year-olds with a wide ramp, the Sway Fn, climbers, ladders, spinners, sensory panels, slides, and more.
The playground has a wheelchair-accessible We-Saw, a reimagined seesaw that allows up to nine children and adults to play.
A Symbol Communication Sign provides an effective way for non-verbal, speech-challenged, and early-learning individuals to communicate with friends and caregivers.
The Cozy Dome is a place to escape the action of the playground, with pod climbers and a balance beam.
The playground has poured-in-place rubber safety surfacing, the highest quality accessible safety surfacing for wheelchairs and other mobility devices.
Picnic tables and built-in shade structures give caregivers and children a place to relax.
General Recreation is proud to be a part of this playground project at John S Clemens Memorial Park.
This playground will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the Hatfield community for years to come.
