Four years after it was granted approval by the township to build it, Amazon will be closing its facility on State Road in Bensalem, writes Dino Ciliberti for the Patch.
Operations at the facility are scheduled to wrap up in August, according to Amazon spokesman Steve Kelly.
Customer demand prompted the company to open the delivery station in 2020. However, as it now operates several new, purpose-built facilities in the area, this one has become obsolete.
“We’re always evaluating our network to make sure it fits our business needs and to improve the experience for our employees, customers, and partners,” said Kelly. “As part of that effort, we may close older sites, enhance existing facilities, or open new sites, and we weigh a variety of factors when deciding where to develop future sites or maintain a presence.”
The closure will not impact customers, and all employees at the Bensalem facility are being given the opportunity to transfer to one of the nearby locations.
Amazon is already working closely with staff to accommodate transfer and scheduling preferences throughout the process.
Kelly said that delivery services will be moved from the Bensalem warehouse to nearby facilities.
