Bachmann Trains, in business since 1833, moved into its Kensington headquarters in 1929, where it continues to keep its mission and brand on track nearly a century later, reports Christie Ileto for 6abc.
1400 East Erie Avenue is the place where the Bachmann brothers were the first United States company to manufacture prescription sunglasses.
After World War II, the company used its expertise in injection molding plastic to enter the world of model trains.
“We produce trains for the hobby and toy market, primarily for people who’re interested in trains and want to replicate them in miniature,” said Matt Stern, Marketing Manager at Bachmann Trains. “We produce everything from Thomas the Tank Engine for the younger audience up to Amtrak, CSX…”
This attention to detail is what makes these trains stand out.
Stern said that they make sure that everything is as accurate as possible, even working with various contacts at real railroads so they can get everything right.
This includes their model SEPTA trains.
Those in the Philadelphia region and Northeast region especially tend to really enjoy the model SEPTA locomotives, which Stern said “looks the part and even sounds the part.”
