With a busy 2026 approaching, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation is renewing its search for a restaurant tenant to fill the long-vacant Love Park Welcome Center, better known to locals as the “flying saucer,” writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The city agency released a request for expressions of interest (REFI) earlier this week, inviting food and beverage operators to share their ideas on how best to use the 5,500-square-foot building. Feedback will help in shaping a request for proposals (RFP) that will be issued later this summer.
Parks and Recreation is hoping to hear not only from restaurateurs but also from cultural, nonprofit, and business leaders in the community about how to utilize the space.
The city is seeking a concept that will provide high-quality food and beverage, include both indoor and outdoor seating, and serve as an anchor for park programming and events. The restaurant should also showcase public art and collaborate with local community groups and cultural organizations.
“We are looking for a partner who shares our vision of a welcoming and joyful place that reflects Philadelphia, its neighborhoods, its culture, and its people,” said Parks & Recreation Commissioner Susan Slawson.
The proposal submission deadline is June 6 at 5 PM.
