Phillips Mushroom Farms is a staple business in Kennett Square, the Mushroom Capital of the World, writes John Groh for The Produce News.
While successful, Phillips faces the same challenges as any mushroom farm.
“The mushroom industry is always changing and adapting to economic trends and varying consumer tastes,” said Sean Steller, director of business development. “Currently, our challenges include grappling with inflationary conditions, labor, and consistency of raw materials required to produce a high-quality crop year-round.”
Regardless of the challenges they must overcome, the mushroom industry continues to grow each year. The demand for organic mushrooms is also rising, as well as specialty mushrooms. Phillips plans to introduce new items and lean into the popular mushroom trends.
The business has recently hired Larissa Rice as a National Sales Manager, a new position for the company.
With over 30 years in the produce industry, Rice plans to enhance engagement with managers, buyers, and partners across the United States. The business aims to create a strong relationship with their customers and highlight all the mushroom industry has to offer.
