The Philadelphia region has built a reputation on some famous fish houses over the years, even though we started out mostly living on fish cakes and oysters.
These days, there are an increasing number of seafood restaurants entering the fray, including two well-known Delaware County spots, writes Jason Sheehan and Kae Lani Palmisano for Philadelphia Magazine.
The Original Clam Tavern in Clifton Heights continues to offer a hyper-local seafood experience. It’s a local favorite that’s been around for 60 years.
These days, it’s basically two places with one owner, one right across from the other. The Original Clam Tavern is where you’ll find your baked clams, shrimp cocktail, and stuffed flounder.
Go to the Broadway Bar & Grille across the street during happy hour and you can get the Clam’s award-winning seafood at a cheaper price.
Estia, which offers authentic Greek Mediterranean dining, also brings in fresh fish from Greece and the Mediterranean to include on its menu. It has locations in Radnor, Center City, and Marlton.
Here you can try the Lavraki, European sea bass; Mediterranean white snapper, and Karavides, a Mediterranean delicacy made with a small lobster.
