An anticipated shut down of two Crozer Health hospitals next week has been delayed again after a last-minute deal was brokered Friday between The Foundation for Delaware County and the Pennsylvania attorney general, writes Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“We are pleased to announce that the immediate funding pieces necessary to bridge to a long-term solution are in place,” a foundation’s statement said.
The financial deal allows negotiations to continue on a long-term solution for keeping Crozer Health going, including the Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland and Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park.
It was not disclosed how much funding will be allocated by the foundation, though U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Stacey Jernigan asked the foundation previously to provide $13 million on top of $7 million it already gave to keep the hospitals open through March.
The health system has been in peril since Crozer Health owner Prospect Medical Holdings filed for bankruptcy in January, with Prospect saying it could not keep the hospitals open past March 14.
In 2016, the foundation received $55 million from the 2016 sale of the nonprofit Crozer-Keystone Health System to Prospect.
