Philadelphia’s New Initiative to Help Local Businesses Enhance Nighttime Safety Celebrates First Cohort

The Liberty Bell Safe Certification Program has its first cohort of 22 businesses.

Philadelphia and the Department of Commerce recently launched the Liberty Bell Safe Certification Program, a free initiative that helps local businesses enhance nighttime safety.

Through the program, local businesses will become equipped with the best practices to do so through public safety training that address techniques to navigate challenges that nighttime business often face.

This is part of Mayor Cherelle Parker’s plan to make Philadelphia safer and reduce crime across the board.

Along with the launch, the City has announced the 22 businesses that comprise the inaugural cohort that has completed the program. These businesses include Bake ‘n Bacon, Chris’ Jazz Cafe, Delilah’s, Liberty Point, McGillin’s Olde Ale House, REC Philly, The Winston, World Cafe Live, and several others.

“Each business that completes the program receives a $500 marketing grant to promote their certification demonstrating their readiness with prevention and intervention skills to help address the unique challenges faced by their nighttime establishments,” said Raheem Manning, Director of Nighttime Economy at the Department of Commerce.

The selected business attend these training sessions to be designated as a Liberty Bell Safe certified business: harm reduction training; sexual harassment prevention training; conflict resolution training; diversity, equity, and inclusion training; active shooter awareness training; human trafficking prevention and awareness training; and harm reduction training.
