Wilmington Airport officials anticipate continued passenger growth as Avelo Airlines keeps adding more flights to meet the rising demand, writes Madeleine Overturf for Coast TV.
This month, the airline is celebrating two years since it launched at Wilmington Airport. In the past 24 months, Avelo has operated over 3,800 flights with more than 530,000 travelers.
“Avelo’s willingness to respond to customer requests has been refreshing, and their foresight in planning popular routes has proven successful time and time again,” said Delaware River & Bay Authority Executive Director Tom Cook.
Avelo has continued to expand its operations with seasonal and special flights, including pop-up service to New Orleans for the Super Bowl. The airline is also planning to bring back flights to Nashville and Myrtle Beach later this year.
“In February 2023, we endeavored to make air travel more affordable, faster, and easier for Philadelphia-area travelers,” said Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy. “Over the past two years, we’ve done just that.”
During that time, DRBA has supported Avelo’s growth by making several infrastructure improvements at the airport, including the addition of a new parking lot.
