You can make flying out of Philadelphia International Airport in Tinicum a lot easier by taking a few steps ahead of time with some PHL travel tips, writes Gene Marks for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Leave plenty of time
Security lines can be long at PHL, with some at Terminal B running all the way back to the parking garage.
Arrive at least two hours early.
For connecting flights, plan for a minimum 90-minute window.
Get TSA PreCheck
To shorten your security line wait, apply for TSA PreCheck. A five-year term costs $80 and requires you to go through an application process, but the saved time is worth it.
At PHL, Terminal C security is for TSA PreCheck only.
Check your documentation ahead of time, making sure your name exactly matches travel documents, said Billy McDonough, president of FCM Travel USA.
“You will save yourself time and avoid potential trouble at security,” McDonough said.
Use taxis
They are more readily available than rideshare cars.
Join loyalty programs
At PHL, American Airlines’ Advantage program is the one to use, since it’s the dominant airline there.
Use a VPN or hot spot and airline apps
Airline apps are the best for alerts, flight information and your boarding pass.
