West Chester-based remodeling firm COCOON helps homeowners renovate their homes, ensuring their pets are not only considered but prioritized throughout the process, writes Terri Akman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Recently, the company helped New Hope couple, Jeannine and Kevin Tait, create a special space for their cats, Coco and Cleo, as part of a broader basement renovation.
“These little kitty-cats came into our lives as empty nesters — our four boys are grown now,” said Jeannine. “They are indoor cats and we wanted a space where we could keep them safe if we had large groups of people over.”
The approximately 38-square-foot space with 7-foot-high ceilings connects to the rest of the basement through sliding glass doors that keep the two kitties contained when necessary while providing them with a view of their humans when the couple are socializing nearby.
The space is populated with cat-friendly additions, including the Berber-carpeted walls and the custom-designed bridge.
COCOON also pays special attention to the floor materials when working on pet spaces. For example, when creating a dog wash area, the company makes sure to use durable tile or laminate flooring to ensure it can handle moisture and smells, said Evangeline Esposito, interior designer at COCOON.
