Chester County Town Listed Among Most UFO Sightings in Pennsylvania
West Chester has been reported as one of the “cities” with the most UFO sightings in Pennsylvania, according to a report by Stacker.
The first official UFO sighting was in 1947, an event that set off a cultural craze across the United States; an obsession that is just as prevalent today.
Pilot Kenneth Arnold had taken off from Chehalis, Washington to look for a lost military aircraft that had crashed. However, he found something quite different instead.
While he flew around Mount Rainer, Arnold reported that he encountered nine wingless objects speeding through the air, faster than any airplane could. He spent years trying to explain the phenomenon, creating the term “flying saucer.”
Americans have since fixated on the idea, with a number of UFO sightings being recorded each year. In 2021, 41 percent of Americans believed these sightings were the work of aliens.
This idea has persisted in popularity due to both government hearings and pop culture, most notably the variety of science fiction movies, including The Day the Earth Stood Still and Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
The U.S. government has only amplified these theories, releasing UFO sighting videos from military officials, causing many Americans to grow more and more paranoid about national security.
Overall, West Chester lands at No. 10, with 39 sightings since 1995.
