Upper Darby's international festival highlight's the community's diverse population, including its South Asian residents.

Heavily South Asian precincts in Delaware County had the largest suburban shift toward Trump, with voters there identifying the economy, illegal immigration, and the war in Gaza as the motivation for their vote, writes Katie Bernard and Julia Terruso for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Kamala Harris was the first Black and Asian woman to run for president, but in Millbourne and parts of Upper Darby, her message fell flat.

While Harris won Millbourne, Trump improved there by 13 points compared to 2020, gaining more ground there than any other suburban Philadelphia precinct.

Of 11 collar county precincts where Trump saw the most improvement, five were in eastern Upper Darby. At the same time, Democratic turnout plummeted.

Ray Singh, who immigrated from India to Upper Darby in the 1990s, worked to turn the Sikh community out for Trump.

“Things were getting bad here in terms of crime and the economy and the border — the people pouring in here,” he said.

The community was attracted to Trump’s promise of curbing illegal immigration.

“That could be devastating to the people born here — and their children, who would compete … for the jobs,” he said.
