Welder Training Coming to Delaware County Community College

Delaware County Community College is offering tuition-free welder certification training for up to 40 students.

Delaware County Community College is offering to train up to 40 students for free as entry-level welders, reports the Daily Times.

The no-cost training will take place at DCCC’s Marple Campus and begin in January.

DCCC’s Welding Certificate Program is a 225-hour hands-on training program.

It covers an introduction to welding and training in oxyfuel cutting, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, blueprint reading and basic fabrication.

No previous training and no college degree is needed to participate.

Welding jobs are plentiful, with welders particularly in demand in southeastern Pennsylvania, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The economy for the southeast Pennsylvania region relies on shipping and shipbuilding, the aircraft industry, manufacturing and more.

“The county workforce development boards and the employers in our region have the confidence in us to train a skilled welding workforce fully aligned to regional industry needs,” said DCCC Vice President of Workforce and Economic Development Karen Kozachyn.

The training is covered by a $296,987 award from the Economic Development Administration at the Department of Commerce for the Philadelphia Works’ Good Jobs Challenge designed to drive economic growth across the region.
