Delaware County ranks lower for life expectancy in Pennsylvania than most of its neighboring counties, according to a ranking released by Stacker.
Stacker identified counties with the longest life expectancy in Pennsylvania using 2024 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps from the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute.
Life expectancy calculates the average number of years from birth a person can be expected to live. It is determined based on the number of deaths and the average number of people at risk of dying in a given period.
Delaware County placed 20th among the top 25 counties in Pennsylvania for a long life, in a tie with Huntington County.
Life expectancy in Delaware County is 77.6 years, .3 years more than the state average.
Bucks County by comparison, tied in ninth place with Northampton County and Lancaster County with an average life expectancy of 79.3 years. This is two years more than the statewide average.
Neighboring Montgomery County secured fourth place with a life expectancy of 80.1 years, while Chester County claimed the second-highest in the state coming in at 81.1 years.
The county with the highest life expectancy is Center County at 81.6 years.
