David Markowitz Found His Childhood in His Haverford Home Sports Den
David Markowitz is a very nostalgic person, especially when it comes to sports, so when he and his wife Lecia Markowitz moved into their Haverford home in 2008, the basement became David’s sports den.
The den would house memorabilia from Philadelphia-area minor and major leagues and defunct hockey teams, writes Zoe Rosenberg for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The items were collected over his 55 years, and now the basement is stuffed with them.
There are original photos of Flyers and Sixers players once seen in the Spectrum, a photo of John Madden in 1958 at the Eagles training camp, dozens of team portraits of the United States Football League, the Philadelphia Stars and the North American Soccer League team, the Philadelphia Fury.
“Everything down here has a story to it and means something to me. It all reminds me of something in my childhood,” David Markowitz said.
That includes stand-up cardboard cutouts of the 1975 Flyers he played with as a kid, two stadium seats from the Spectrum, and the five 1980 Philadelphia Eagles collectors glasses from McDonald’s.
“Almost everything down here is old,” he added, without much monetary value.
