Golf is one of the many outdoor activities available in Delaware County for those with an active lifestyle.

If an active lifestyle is important to you, there are at least two Delaware County communities that can help, writes Sandy Smith for Philadelphia Magazine.

Marple Township and Broomall offer one of the most challenging public golf courses in the region, the Paxon Hollow Country Club.

Built in 1926 as a private club, it’s been open to the public, since 1967, owned and run by the township. Here you’ll find tee time fees as little as $35.

Upper Providence Township is close to Ridley Creek State Park’s 2,606-acres, with numerous outdoor activities.

Depending on the time of year, there’s hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing, and sledding.

The park also has playgrounds and campgrounds, along with two villages dating back to the 18th century.

Nearby Media Borough, the county seat, offers a pleasant downtown environment that is extremely walkable.

For those willing to wait until 2026, the historic Cobbs Creek Golf Club is undergoing a major overhaul funded in part by the Tiger Woods Foundation. The golf course, mostly in Overbrook Park, also goes into Upper Darby and is easily assessable from Wynnewood, Millbourne, Stonehurst and Cardington.
