Villanova Grad Eric Roedl Is the University’s New Athletic Director
Villanova University has chosen one of its own as its new athletic director, writes Jeff Neiburg for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Eric Roedl, a 1997 Villanova graduate who co-captained the tennis team, is currently deputy athletic director at the University of Oregon.
Roedl will start in January. He succeeds Mark Johnson, who is now the athletic director at Northwestern University.
Roedl has served as the deputy athletic director and chief operating officer at Oregon since 2016, helping to oversee Oregon’s 20-sport $145 million athletic program.
The new athletic director also spent eight-plus years at Temple University, including as deputy athletic director and administrator for the football, men’s basketball, and baseball programs.
“When we began our search, we were looking for an individual who understands our Augustinian mission, who is able to successfully navigate the changing landscape of college athletics and who possesses the necessary skills to build on our legacy of success — athletically, academically, and administratively — well into the future,” the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, Villanova’s president, said in a statement.
Roedl quickly stood out among a talented group of candidates as a “leader with a breadth of experience, vision, and deep commitment to student-athletes,” he said.
