Several repairs and improvements were made to Upper Darby schools after the state released Public School Environmental Repair Grants.

Pennsylvania has released $4 million in environmental funds to five school districts and a charter school to help with Delaware County school repairs that should make going to school a little nicer, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.

Upper Darby High School already has a new blacktop on its parking lot, new bleachers and new baseball and softball fields, thanks to the funds.

Drexel Hill Middle School has new locker rooms, replacing the originals when the school was first built in 1959.

Westbrook Park Elementary Schol replaced three air conditioners and added new LED lighting and ceilings.

Hillcrest Elementary School got new flooring.

Funds totaling $75 million from the state’s Public School Environmental Repair grants were earmarked by Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro for 109 school districts statewide.

In Delaware County, Upper Darby received the most, at $1,780,890, followed by Chichester, at $1,041,241; Chester-Upland, at $818,376; Interboro, at $289,510; Vision Academy Charter School, at $159,427; and the Delaware County CTC, at $79,751.

“This funding will enable schools to repair buildings and provide students and school staff with safe air to breathe, water to drink, and classrooms to learn in,” said Pennsylvania Education Secretary Dr. Khalid N. Mumin.
