The collapse of Crozer Health would leave a significant healthcare gap in Delaware County, warns Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry.

The burn center at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland is the only one accredited for Delaware County, she said. The next closest is 30 minutes away, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.

Crozer-Chester also has the only accredited Level 2 trauma center in Delaware County.

Her warning came as she filed a petition Monday in Delaware County Common Pleas Court to have the state take over the troubled health system.

The petition was made after discussions between Crozer Health owner Prospect Medical Holdings and North Jersey real estate firm CHA Partners over the sale of the health system did not produce a deal.

The petition notes that Crozer Health’s continuing financial trouble could reduce other available critical services and place pressure on surrounding hospitals beyond their ability to absorb additional patients.

Prospect Medical said it has been “working diligently” to transfer Crozer Health’s ownership to a nonprofit and has been working with the governor’s office to secure “some additional stabilization funding” to help maintain services during the sales process.
