The Irish Star, a digital and print newspaper focusing on Ireland and Irish Americans, recently highlighted the Irish Coffee Shop in Upper Darby.

“A traditional Irish breakfast paired with a nice pot of tea while shopping for Irish groceries is a description that enticed me immediately when I took off to the Philadelphia suburbs to experience an afternoon in an Irish café,” writes reviewer Fionnuala Boyle for the Irish Star.

The shop on West Chester Pike has produce, meals, groceries, and items imported from Ireland.

Try the traditional Ulster Fry breakfast or some French toast and pancakes with Irish bacon. 

Beyond breakfast, there’s bangers and mash, chips with curry sauce, peas, gravy, shepherd’s pie, ham and cabbage, chicken curry and roast beef, and battered cod on Fridays.

“I visited the Coffee Shop on a quiet Thursday afternoon, but I already know I’d like to return on a weekend, as I have been assured by Irish friends in Philly that the hustle, bustle, and craic are mighty on a Saturday morning,” Bole wrote.

The friendly staff, with family in Donegal, have worked there for more than a decade.

“It was a laid-back, warm atmosphere that reminded me of home,” Bole wrote.
