Baleroy Mansion in Chestnut Hill has been referred to as “the most haunted house in America.” Built in 1911, the home’s first occupant reportedly murdered his wife there. Hill-Physick House in Society Hill dates back to 1786. The house was once home to Dr. Philip Syng Physick, the father of American surgery, and some believe that it is still haunted by the spirits of his former patients.
Bishop White House in Society Hill was built in 1787. Its first owner was Rev. Dr. William White, the first Episcopal Bishop of Pennsylvania. He hired a free Black coach driver named John, who died of yellow fever in 1793. Many have reported noticing his silhouette on the property since then.
