Mary Lou Jennings, a ninety-six-year-old lifelong Lansdowne resident, has dedicated decades of service to the community as a Girl Scout leader, CCD teacher, and a chair of the Shade Tree Commission, among many other roles, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

“Thirty years I was a Girl Scout leader,” said Jennings. “For ten or fifteen years I was a CCD leader. I’m the one who gets it done.”

A mother of 11, Jennings has acted as a motherly figure to numerous kids over the years. She has also been recognized with many awards for her community service and once served as the grand marshall for a Fourth of July parade.

Additionally, she personally helped in the gathering and planting of trees over many decades, until just a few years ago.

While she now has limited mobility due to health, which prevents her from getting physically involved, Jennings remains a sharp-witted and passionate advocate for both trees and her hometown.

“Lansdowne means everything to me,” said Jennings. “I’ve lived here my whole life. I love the town. I love the people that live here.”
