Iacobucci Formal Wear in Havertown Collects for Hurricane Helene Relief
Iacobucci Formal Wear in Havertown has stepped up to help Bruce McClay and his wife Sherry provide relief to victims of Hurricane Helene, writes Madeleine Wright for CBS News Philadelphia.
The small business has been collecting donations like food, water, batteries, diapers and chainsaws to donate to Hurricane Helene survivors after hurricane winds and rain attacked western North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia and Virginia.
“You can only watch so much on the news without getting involved,” said Steve Cassel, owner of Iacobucci Formal Wear.
Cassel’s friend Bruce McClay drove the goods down to western North Carolina the first weekend of October.
“I’m retired and I have the time,” McClay said. “I don’t have a big huge trailer or anything, but it’s what I can do.”
People in the community continued to drop off donations that weekend as McClay and his wife Sherry packed up supplies in the business parking lot.
“Giving back is what I wanted to do,” said Kathy Ransone from Havertown, who donated a hedge trimmer.. “I mean how could you not? It’s a catastrophe zone down there.”
Joe Roan from Drexel Hill donated socks, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
“The folks desperately need help and it’s time for us to step up,” Roan said.
