Delaware County residents may be surprised to know that one of their own towns is right up there with Florida, Las Vegas, and Arizona when it comes to popular places for retiring, according to Brittney Myers at fool.com.

Media Borough was second on a list of four popular places to retire. The others were in Florida, Arizona and Nevada.

Media offers a “small-town feel with big-city convenience.”

It retains its charm yet is less than an hour from Philadelphia.  Population is about 5,500. About 20 percent of the residents are 60 or older.

Median home values are about $330,000, which means a mortgage might be needed.  However, Pennsylvania doesn’t tax Social Security or retirement income.

There’s green space, with local and state parks. There are small museums and a local theater if you don’t feel like driving into the city.

First on the list for retiring was The Villages in Florida, geared especially for retirees in a state already popular as a retirement destination. Median home prices run around $280,000.

Florida’s also attractive for its warm winters, ample golf courses and long growing seasons.

Green Valley, Arizona came in third, followed by Las Vegas, Nevada.
