A West Chester University basketball court is set to be named after two superstar coaches, writes Matt Leon for KYW Newsradio

Deidre Kane coached the women’s basketball team at WCU for 27 years, where she won a legendary 447 games before her retirement in 2014. Dick DeLaney was at the helm of the men’s team for 21 years, winning 370 games before retiring in 2008.

Last Saturday, the two coaches will be forever associated with the school and the sport, when the basketball court at West Chester’s Hollinger Field House was unveiled with its new name, “Kane DeLaney Court.”

“It’s very surreal, but it sunk in when they had the formal announcement last January when they had a bunch of people come to a men’s and women’s doubleheader and actually announced it,” Kane said.

DeLaney had a similar reaction, stating that it’s an honor. “When I saw a rendition of the court, I was like, that’s going to be there forever and I could show my grandkids it, and the players that I coached, I’m so proud of them and they’ve shown the love back to me. So, it’s been overwhelming a bit.”

The Kane DeLaney court will feature the signatures and a banner picture of both coaches.
