Owen Taylor is a farmer at Truelove Seeds Farm in Glen Mills, producing seeds that tell their own story of flavor, color, aroma and history, writes Leigh Green for PA Eats.

He works with a team and with 70+ partner farmers.

Taylor is a “plant doula, coaxing the next generation from the plants, and the history and culture embodied in all of them.”

He’s been a plant nerd since he was a kid with his own vegetable garden, but it was William Weaver that showed him his true calling.

Weaver had turned his grandfather’s heirloom seed collection into The Roughwood Seed Collection.

Taylor knew he wanted to be a steward of seeds that held cultural, familial and social significance.

Truelove Seeds officially launched in 2017 with rented farm space in Glen Mills and using partner farms to grow plants and seeds. There’s also workshops, a podcast and an apprenticeship program.

“Our main focus is to work with people who steward their own traditional seeds to make them available to those communities – wherever we can ship them – to stay connected with tastes of home. That’s our reason for existing,” he says.
