The Colonial Theatre will spotlight Art House Cinema titles, one Sunday a month, starting in September. The first two titles are already set, with tickets available now. Keep an eye out for additional titles in November and December.

“We have heard from several long-time patrons and members who want this type of programming again at the Colonial,” stated Bob Trate, Director of Programming. “What’s thrilling is looking back on those benchmark films that helped define the genre of ‘Art House,’ especially those that predated ACT (Association for the Colonial Theatre) and feature them in our iconic theatre. Stay tuned because the first batch is incredible, and the titles after that, well, I don’t want to spoil anything.”

Wings of Desire is one of cinema’s loveliest city symphonies. Bruno Ganz is Damiel, an angel perched atop buildings high over Berlin who can hear the thoughts — fears, hopes, dreams — of all the people living below. But when he falls in love with a beautiful trapeze artist, he is willing to give up his immortality and come back to earth to be with her. Made not long before the fall of the Berlin Wall, this stunning tapestry of sounds and images, shot in black and white and color by the legendary Henri Alekan, forever made the name of Director Wim Wenders synonymous with film art. Wings of Desire screens Sept. 15, 2024. Tickets are available online.

The last entry in the Tales of the Four Seasons tetralogy is a breezy take on the classic American romantic comedies that influenced Eric Rohmer and his French New Wave peers. Set among the golden vineyards of the Rhône Valley, A Tale of Autumn concerns simultaneous schemes to find a new love for the reserved Widow and Winegrower Magali (Béatrice Romand). Her son’s girlfriend (Alexia Portal) attempts to pair her with a former professor and lover (Didier Sandre), while Magali’s friend Isabelle (Marie Rivière) assumes a false identity in order to lure eligible bachelor Gérald (Alain Libolt). The misunderstandings that follow are pure Rohmer in bringing out the humor in human folly. A Tale of Autumn screens on Oct. 6, 2024. Tickets are available online.
