Delaware County Community College has received $10 million in state funding to move into phase 2 of its Southeast Campus construction at the former Archbishop Prendergast High School property in Drexel Hill, writes Ryan Mulligan for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The community college expects the $66.5 million project on its second campus to be completed in January 2026. It plans to make the Drexel Hill campus a hub for the community, offering workforce training, educational programming and childcare.

The 7.5-acre site will accommodate 136,000 square feet of Southeast Campus development. The $10 million will go toward constructing the interior of the main building, creating 28 classrooms along with an annex for a study area and workplace programs.

DCCC President Marta Yera Cronin said the new state funding will “substantially help the college as it continues to transform the former Archbishop Prendergast High School in Upper Darby Township.”

The Department of Education funding is part of an increase in Gov. Josh Shapiro’s 2024-25 budget that increased community college funding y  6 percent, or $15.7 million.

Montgomery County Community College was awarded $10.3 million for campus-wide deferred maintenance.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education awarded $33 million in total funding to 12 community colleges. Read more about community college state funding in the Philadelphia Business Journal
