Liverpool Coaches Bring Soccer Knowledge to Chester Kids
Chester youth soccer players got a chance to learn from professional English Premiere League coaches who were in town last week, writes Justin Udo for KYW Newsradio.
The coaches were here for a friendly game at Subaru Park between two English soccer leagues, the Liverpool FC and Arsenal FC.
Before the match, the Liverpool coaches joined the Philadelphia Union Foundation in a soccer clinic to teach the game to some local kids.
“I’m excited about meeting new people, and I get to learn new things,” said 8-year-old Caleb Colter, one of the kids participating in the multi-day soccer clinic.
Another participant, Shane Garnett, said soccer is growing in his neighborhood.
“We don’t have any soccer in Chester before, and we’re the first to do it for real,” Shane said.
Matt Parish, one of the Liverpool coaches, said the camp is a great chance to bond with different cultures to share the universal language of soccer.
“This is not about coaching, necessarily, the most gifted players — but this is about giving all young people the opportunity to have a little bit of Liverpool Football Club while we’re over here.”
