Devon Nelson's basketball career path is back on track with his commitment to Millersville University.

Devon Nelson did everything right on Bonner-Prendergast’s boys’ basketball team. He cheered the team on. He never missed a practice. He traveled to every away game.

The only thing the 6-foot-3, 180—pound senior guard couldn’t do was play, because of a PIAA appeal ruling last December, writes Joseph Santoliquito for City of Basketball Love.

The decision was made that he was ineligible for his junior season after he transferred from Upper Merion to Bonner-Prendie, even though his family had moved just a few miles away from the Catholic high school.

In spite of it all, Nelson, a sophomore first-team all-Pioneer Athletic Conference selection, has landed at a college.

He committed to Millersville University and to Marauders coach Casey Stitzel on Friday, Aug. 23.

“I’m excited, and I’m happy because I was able to commit this early, considering I didn’t play my junior year,” said Nelson, who maintains a 3.7 GPA at Bonner-Prendie.

He had some Division I schools talking to him, but he really liked Millersville.

“It’s not too far from home, coach Stitzel runs a great program, and I like him as a person and a coach. Millersville felt like home,” he said.

Nelson is expected to play point guard for the Marauders.
