‘X’ Marks the Spot in Oaks at Eclectic The American Treasure Tour Museum
The American Treasure Tour Museum in Oaks is home to the strangest assortment of collectibles, reports Stephanie Farr for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The museum is an eclectic arrangement of all things Americana. Some pieces date back to the 1870s. Items include a 20-ft tall Gumby statue, a full Chuck E. Cheese animatronic band, and a stuffed feature of the famous Dogs Playing Poker painting.
”It’s not easy to compile it in one sentence because we’re just all over the place,” said Ross Brakman, the museum’s director.
The museum has two spaces. The Music Room has a large private collection of organs, nickelodeons and other music machines. The Toy Box showcases a wide variety of collectibles and staged scenes that visitors can experience on a 40-minute tram ride.
The museum also houses other private collections. Collectors use the museum to house pieces they can no longer hold. “It’s filling a need for the community,” said Brakman.
According to cofounder Jerry Frey there is one guiding principle to what goes inside: it has to be happy.
