Vitable Health, founded in 2020 by Delaware County native Joseph Kitonga, has raised $16 million in venture capital to continue expanding into other states, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.

The Woodlyn company provides direct primary care for employees working at small and midsize businesses that do not offer traditional health insurance.

Patients or their employers pay a fee to receive access to primary care health services with no co-pay.

“Many are stuck making too much to qualify for Medicaid and too little to afford traditional health insurance, leaving them under or uninsured,” Kitonga. said “Unfortunately most health care companies today fail to address these underserved communities. That’s why Vitable started, with a focus on small business and hourly employees.”

Vitable currently covers more than 50,000 individuals in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Illinois, and Florida.

It plans to expand to Texas and Ohio later this summer.

In three years, it hopes to be in 40 states.

The company’s expansion growth is being fueled by Series A venture capital funding from investors Newark Venture Partners, Citi Impact Fund, First Round Capital, Commerce Ventures and Y Combinator.
